© Dawud Wharnsby – Afraid To Read (lyrics in description)

How many words she’s read before, she’s consumed two thousand books or more. Musty pulp and glue soundproof her tiny room. She cannot understand why this book in her hand fascinates her now so much that she’s almost shy to touch. “Don’t think about the words it’s just a book – paper and ink” She reaffirms, remind herself, “a book can’t dictate what to think.” It invites, intrigues her more than others on her shelf “Is it just another book?” – she sits questioning herself. Oh Allah, she’s so afraid to read, the wisdom that’s revealed may burrow in her mind She’ll be obliged to admit, She’ll be obliged to submit But will she be strong enough to live the truth she finds? Oh Allah, she’s so afraid to read. The hall light is always on every night that he is gone. He hears his mother toss in bed when he slips in at dawn. In the book case by the stair, he can see it sitting there like a waiting watchful wise-man scolding him with care. In the morning will they fight about him being out all night? Will he resent their gift of love and not admit that they are right? All he wants is to fit in some place, but must he compromise his faith? He can’t look himself or his parents in the face. He takes the book upstairs unread and sets it closed next to his head then counts the prayers he’s missed and lays so hopelessly in bed. Oh Allah, he’s so afraid to read, the wisdom that’s revealed may burrow in his mind He’ll be obliged to admit, He’ll be obliged to submit But will he be strong

Special Education: How to use No Child Left For to help your child learn to read

Are you a parent of a child with a disability who is concerned about your child, AOS reading progress? Would you like to know how to use the No Child Left behind (NCLB), to help your child learn to read? This article will discuss 5 basic provisions of NCLB, which can be used to advocate for your child, AOS education.

The U.S. Department of Education published a wonderful booklet called “No Child Left behind; Parents Guide.” This booklet can be ordered online at www. nclb. Government / next. According to this brochure, there are several things that makes this law for children and parents.

1st “Supporting education in the early years, thereby preventing many learning that can occur later.” It is very important because if the child does not learn certain skills can be very difficult to read at grade appropriate level, and difficult to catch up. Parent Guide also states that “… Research shows that most reading problems faced by adolescents and adults are the result of problems that could be prevented through good instruction in their early childhood.” You should be vigilant about ensuring that your child learn early reading skills.

2nd “It brings more information to parents about their child, AOS progress.: Parent Guide says,” Under this Act, each state must measure every public school student, AOS progress in reading, mathematics and science in each of the classes 3-8, and at least once during grade 10 to 12 “This test provides objective information for parents about their child, AOS academics (grades and teachers to monitor progress is subjective and not effective). You should keep copies of all your children, AOS district and state wide testing. If your child does not learn a disability read, you should ask for appropriate reading training reading specialists.

3rd “It ensures that the quality of teachers is a high priority.” What is important is that the teacher has the right credentials, but that the teacher is found competent to teach children with disabilities learn to read. Make sure your child AOS teacher is competent to teach reading.

4th “Focuses on what works.” Parent Guide states that “NCLB puts a special emphasis on implementing educational programs … have been clearly demonstrated to be effective through rigorous scientific research.” This is the most important part that parents must be involved in. If the teacher is entitled to, but does not outline the scientific research has shown that teaching children with disabilities learn to read, the child will probably not teach. If your child has a reading learning disability, there are specific degree programs that are proven to work. Check out the website for the National Center for Learning Disabilities, Inc. at www. LD. org.

5th “It allows more flexibility in exchange for strong accountability.” You should have your school district personnel responsible for teaching your child to read, if possible. Children with moderate to severe disabilities may be necessary to focus on the functional curriculum. But children with other disabilities are able, if they receive appropriate reading instruction.

If you use the 5 provisions of NCLB, you’ll help your child learn to read. I remember how important it is that your child learn early reading skills and get early treatment for all reading problems. Happy reading!
