Dave Barry, Pulitzer Prize-winning humor columnist and author of more than 30 books, is no stranger to critics trying to censor his writing. The nationally syndicated humorist has written some of our nations funniest columns—and with the First Amendment on his side, hes been winning the battle for free speech for over 25 years. This new video from FIRE features Barry discussing why freedom of expression is important to him and how todays politically correct college campuses are creating a culture of censorship that stifles humor writing and the opinions of millions of students across the country.

@ TheFIREorg Yeah, it’s not that the music is bad – it’s just as fast in tempo, which is totally out of touch with the relaxed mood of Barry. If the speaker was really fast and loud, it would work, but not Dave Barry.

By the time children reach high school, it’s been learned practices – all just sitting, all dressed the same, everyone eligible to give answers to test questions to get a better grade. . . If you want campuses to be bastions of free thinking, free-tuition start thinking from the get-go. I went to RIT in the 90 years when there was self-segregation on the students themselves – and even sit on opposite sides of the common areas of study, en masse. Blacks left, right, white, both saddening.
There is virtually no formal requirement for them to this fact. I’m not personally worried. It is a principle and a long-term consequences of that trouble me. I’m certainly not the first one to comment on this. It is well documented-elsewhere.
Chat on my cell phone, or talk on the discussion list, as there’s no government agency, was listening. Requirements for inspections and telephone intercepts were significantly reduced. So many different agencies of government are able to regularly monitor what we say or type to listen, without our knowledge or consent, or without authorization of a judge on the basis of probable cause. Personal freedom may be limited by the government simply declaring you a suspected terrorist.

“Liberal” has its meaning. It’s as silly as “African-American” or “Black.” Originally a term for people who believed in laisez-faire capitalism and small government. Now that is a leftist. People do not usually pay attention to the etymology of the labels that apply to you.
Political correctness is equally effective way of controlling most of the minority.
It would be good if it really was most elections, but there was so much fraud in this election, it’s not legal. I was so offended by the comments left that I want them to stop, but of course, have a double standard. I have the right to offend you. Read the Constitution. If you do not like what I say, then do not listen or watch. Colleges are dumbing our children so that they can be inspected. Free thought, free speech, they even know what that means anymore?

Look at all those comments from people claim that “liberals” are always offended. Tho I’m tempted to say, both sides can easily offended, I think conservitards have thinner skin. After all, health care initiatives on a par with Nazism? Commotion in the middle name of Barack Obama? Putting guns into the rally with a pres? Cried the president? Man, you just can not have lost a single election, which is weird because it supposedly stands for democracy (majority rule).

But not just blame the liberals for this position. I’ve heard a lot of mean and dismissive, belittling attitudes from those that require themesleves “conservative.” (Some on this forum, too.) What do these terms mean anymore? And how is the government on the one hand, this is what we were ss Republicans, with few breaks in between. Bush Homeland Security Fascism imposed on us, ironically, moving in a Nazi direction.

Thanks. For what is worth, in the introduction to music was good, and it was well produced. It was when Dave Barry has been told that it was distracting. He was focused, not take away from, which reduces the impact on him and what he says.

This is contradictory. If you are a fascist, can not be liberal. If someone is liberal, they would not fascist ideas. People who want to call themselves liberal need to evaluate their positions and determine whether they are oppressive and liberating.

I also remember it was Tom Tancredo, whose speaking engagements was closed with vandalism and riots around? I think even a video here on youtube akce.libs extremeists and are selective with their idea of freedom of expression.
